MEGHAN MARKLE
WASN'T INVITED
TO THE MET GALA.
AGAIN.

Anna Wintour has never extended the invitation. Beyoncé co-chaired this year. Venus Williams co-chaired. The theme was Costume Art. Meghan was in Montecito. We are imagining what she would have worn. The fashion history we are working from is extensive and instructive.

THE 2026 MET GALA:
EVERYONE WAS THERE.

The 2026 Met Gala happened on May 4th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The theme was Superfine: Tailoring Black Style — a celebration of Black sartorial excellence, precision, and legacy. The co-chairs were Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and Anna Wintour. The red carpet was extraordinary. The guest list was extraordinary. The whole evening was, by every account, exactly what fashion's biggest night is supposed to be.

Meghan Markle was not there.

She has never been there. Not for any theme, not in any era, not during Suits, not as a royal, not during the Netflix years, not during the As Ever jam years. Anna Wintour has never, in the entire history of their relationship, sent the invitation. This year, with Beyoncé and Venus Williams in the co-chair seats, it still didn't happen. We are going to enjoy this. We are also, for the purposes of this article, going to imagine the look. Consider it a public service.

"ANNA DOES NOT WANT THAT."

— A source, on why Meghan Markle has never been to the Met Gala. Five words. Case closed.

WHY THE INVITATION
HAS NEVER ARRIVED.

Let's go through the file, because there is quite a bit of it.

The Wintour-Markle File — Documented Reasons, In Order
01
The 2019 Enninful Incident
Meghan guest-edited British Vogue with editor Edward Enninful — at a time when Enninful and Wintour were at odds. By siding publicly with Enninful, Meghan reportedly incensed Wintour. A source: "Meghan pledged her allegiance to Enninful which pi**ed off Anna. Anna hates her." That was 2019. The hatred, apparently, has been consistent.
02
She Doesn't Pay. She Doesn't Return Things.
In fashion, sample loans are currency. Designer relationships require reciprocity. The same source: "Meghan doesn't want to pay, and never returns things." In a world where a thank-you note and a returned gown can define a relationship with a major house, this is a significant problem. Anna Wintour has noticed.
03
Wintour Loves the Royal Family
Anna Wintour is a Dame Commander of the British Empire. She is a personal friend of King Charles. She is, by every account, aligned with the institution that Meghan and Harry exited loudly and with documentation. "Anna loves the Royal Family. She is a Dame. Anna would have hated how they handled their exit from The Firm." She hated it. The invitation has not followed.
04
The Paris Drinks That Meant Nothing
In 2025, Meghan and Wintour crossed paths at a Balenciaga event in Paris. Sources close to Meghan report she believed it went "totally positive" — that Wintour complimented her outfit and suggested drinks. Meghan took this as a thaw. Wintour apparently took it as a polite evening. The 2026 Met Gala invitation did not arrive. The drinks have not happened.
05
The Final Assessment
"People are just kind of over her. She sucks the air out of every room and makes it about herself. Anna does not want that." The Met Gala is an event where several hundred of the world's most powerful people have agreed to make it about Anna Wintour. Meghan's approach to rooms, as documented extensively by Brewtiful Living, is fundamentally incompatible with this arrangement.

HER "FRIEND"
WAS CO-CHAIRING.
STILL DIDN'T CALL.

Here is the detail that elevates this particular snub above all others: Beyoncé was co-chairing. Venus Williams was co-chairing. Two women Meghan has spent years carefully positioning herself adjacent to were sitting in the co-chair seats — and the invitation still did not come.

The pattern of strategic proximity has been documented at some length. Sources have described Meghan's "noticeable pattern of showing up at events tied to Beyoncé's world" as looking like "a conscious and a bit of a desperate effort to position herself closer to that circle." Beyoncé, per sources, has noticed this. "Beyoncé values relationships that evolve quietly over time, so any sign of pressure or strategic networking can make her more cautious." The quiet withdrawal has reportedly been underway since early 2026.

So the picture on May 4th was: Beyoncé in the co-chair seat. Venus Williams in the co-chair seat. Meghan Markle, in Montecito, reportedly holding out for a last-minute ticket. If there is a more perfect visual metaphor for where Meghan's Hollywood project currently stands, we haven't found it. Though Ted Sarandos unfollowing her on Instagram comes close.

WHAT WOULD SHE
HAVE WORN — IF
SHE'D BEEN INVITED.

The theme was Costume Art — a celebration of Black sartorial excellence, history, and precision tailoring. It required cultural awareness, genuine engagement with the subject, and a commitment to the room rather than to oneself. We have reviewed Meghan's documented relationship with themes, dress codes, and rooms she walks into. We have also reviewed the chartreuse at Carey Mulligan's Netflix party, the olive green at Prince Louis' christening, and the general body of evidence. We present our findings.

Scenario A — The Safe Play
Something Extremely Beige
A floor-length column gown in ecru, champagne, or what her team would call "ivory." Minimal. Described in the press notes as "understated elegance." Not technically wrong. Completely missing a theme that was a celebration of bold, expressive, precision-tailored Black style. She would arrive looking like a tasteful wall.
Verdict: Wrong room. Wrong energy. Diplomatically unwearable.
Scenario B — The Overreach
Something That Tries Very Hard
An enormous structured gown — possibly with a cape — in a statement colour she's already worn to someone else's event this year. The proportions would be dramatic. Her team would call it an "interpretation" of the theme. The rest of the room would call it a stylist who received the brief at 11pm and panicked.
Verdict: Visible effort. The effort is always visible. See photos above.
Scenario C — The Brand Tie-In
Something That Mentions As Ever
A custom piece that somehow references the jam brand. The colour of the As Ever packaging. A floral motif from the lifestyle range. Paired with a comment in the press notes about how fashion and food and community are all connected for her. The As Ever brand is currently generating headlines for smashed chocolates. A Met Gala look as a press release. Again.
Verdict: The most predictable option. Probably the actual one.
Scenario D — The Wildcard
Whatever Colour Someone Else Had Already Claimed
Given documented form, there is a non-zero probability that Meghan would have arrived in the colour or silhouette associated with another attendee — the co-chair's signature aesthetic, a designer's statement moment, someone else's clearly established visual territory. It has happened before. Not on purpose. Never on purpose.
Verdict: History suggests this is more likely than it sounds.

☕ The Brewtiful Living Verdict

Meghan Markle has never attended the Met Gala because Anna Wintour has never invited her — and Anna Wintour has never invited her because Anna Wintour, who has spent forty years curating exactly who sits in that room and why, has reviewed the application and reached a consistent conclusion. Six years out from the royal exit, the Hollywood doors that were supposed to open are mostly not opening. The Met Gala is the most glamorous version of this pattern, but it is not the only one. The reset was not the reset she thought it was. The jam is selling. The gala is not calling. These things can both be true.

THE DOORS ARE NOT SLAMMING. THEY ARE SIMPLY NOT OPENING.

— Which is, in many ways, worse. And considerably harder to write a statement about.

WHAT THE MET GALA
SNUB ACTUALLY TELLS US.

The Met Gala snub does not exist in isolation. It is one data point in a year that has not gone according to plan. The Serena Williams unboxing was supposed to be a brand-building moment. It became a content roast. The chartreuse at the Netflix BEEF party was supposed to be a style moment. It became an argument about dress codes. The Paris meeting with Wintour was supposed to signal a thaw. The 2026 Met Gala guest list suggests it did not.

Beyoncé is pulling back. Ted Sarandos unfollowed. The gap between how Meghan experiences her relationships and how those relationships are actually going is something we have documented at some length. The Met Gala is just the most recent, and most visually perfect, exhibit.

She was holding out for a last-minute ticket. It did not arrive. Beyoncé co-chaired. The theme was Costume Art. We are imagining the look. Anna Wintour made the right call.

People Also Ask

No. Meghan Markle was not invited to the 2026 Met Gala on May 4, 2026. She was reportedly surprised to be left off the list despite Beyoncé and Venus Williams co-chairing alongside Anna Wintour and Nicole Kidman. Sources say she held out hope for a last-minute invitation. It did not arrive. Meghan has never attended the Met Gala.
Multiple sources cite her strained relationship with Anna Wintour as the primary reason. Wintour reportedly thinks Meghan and Harry make everything about themselves, is a personal friend of King Charles, and was reportedly angered in 2019 when Meghan sided with British Vogue editor Edward Enninful. Sources also note that Meghan doesn't pay for or return fashion samples, and that the broader Hollywood crowd is "over her." One insider said simply: "Anna does not want that."

No. Meghan Markle has never attended the Met Gala. Not during her Suits years, not as a royal, not during her Netflix era, and not in 2026 when two of her supposed close friends were co-chairing. Anna Wintour has never extended an invitation.
Reportedly strained since 2019. Wintour is a Dame and personal friend of King Charles, has never given Meghan an American Vogue cover, and reportedly thinks she makes everything about herself. The two met at a Balenciaga event in Paris in 2025 — Meghan believed it went well. The 2026 Met Gala guest list suggests Wintour's interpretation differed considerably.
